GREENWASTE: Greenwaste such as large prunnings and removed trees/tree branches should be taken to the designated area at each of the waste management facilities within the Shire - at Bodallin, Bullfinch, Marvel Loch, Moorine Rock, and Southern Cross. Small greenwaste material such as leaves and lawn clippings may either be put with the large greenwaste material or in the landfill trench at each site. INK & TONER CARTRIDGES: Empty printer ink and toner cartridges can be recycled in Southern Cross by taking these items to the TeleCentre, Canopus Street, Southern Cross or to the Post Office, 24 Antares Street, Southern Cross. MOBILE TELEPHONES: Old mobile telephones, mobile phone batteries, and other hard plastic items associated with mobile telephones can now be recycled. Collections points within Southern Cross are at the Shire Office, 23 Antares Street, Southern Cross, or at the TeleCentre, Canopus Street, Southern Cross. WASTE MOTOR OIL: A waste motor oil collection facility is siturated on Vega Street off Arcturus Street, next to the Shire Works Depot, Southern Cross. The facility is open to residents and trades people alike, including farmers. Please note that only motor oils are accepted - NO COOKING OILS PLEASE. Farmers or industrial companies with 1,000lts or more of waste motor oil can contact an oil recycling company for an on-farm collection. Please contact:- Enviro Oil Australia Pty Ltd – tel: 9243 0303 Nationwide Oil Pty Ltd – tel: 9351 1300 Wren Oil – tel: 1800 654 002 At this time there is no monetary charge for this service, the only charge is that people keep the facility clean and tidy for everyone to use. As of 1st November 2007 no 200lt drums of waste oil will be accepted at the facility. Anyone using 200lt drums can contact Miss Dallywater or the Shire Manager of Works, Mr Robert Bosenberg, regarding this matter. SCRAP METAL: Scrap metal including car bodies can be places at designated areas at each of the waste managment facilities within the Shire - Bodallin, Bullfinch, Marvel Loch, Moorine Rock, and Southern Cross.
