Detox your Home - household chemical collection

Detox your home is a safe, free and easy-to-use service to dispose of unwanted household chemicals without harming your health or the environment. The program is administered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local councils.

Accepted items:

Home:

  • acids and alkalis 
  • aerosol cans 
  • cleaners – ammonia based 
  • cooking oil
  • detergents
  • disinfectants
  • fire extinguishers
  • floor-care products and waxes
  • glues – water-based and solvents
  • nail polish and remover
  • paint stripper, thinner and turps
  • pharmaceuticals and cosmetics 
  • photographic chemicals
  • rat poison
  • wood preservatives and finishes (oils and varnishes)

Garden and Pool

  • fertiliser
  • herbicides and weed killers
  • insect spray/pesticides

What to do with other chemicals or hazardous waste
