Leichhardt Council promotes Extended Producer Responsibility Schemes (EPR) which is the only way to acheive zero waste. EPR requires the producer of a product to take back the product at the end of its life and encourages product design for reuse and recycling - not products that include toxic materials left for the community to deal with. Reuse before recycling and disposal. Residents can phone The Bower Referal Service T: 9568 6280 or visit http://bower.org.au/ for information on organisations that may be interested in items for reuse. Council coordinates SecondHand Saturday garage sales held in individual properties in the first half of each year. Council has an oil recycling facility and mattress drop off at its Weekend Transfer Station at 54 Moore St, Leichhardt.
