Materials Collected

  • Household Furniture
  • Metals
  • Carpet
  • Scrap Timber
  • Mattresses
  • Household furniture, toys, crockery, small electrical appliances
  • Bed/Mattresses (maximum of one bed and base only)
  • Carpet and equivalent underlay (three rolls maximum)
  • Small amounts of lino and vinyl
  • Small glass items such as drinking glasses and crockery wrapped securely in a box and labelled
  • Car tyres (maximum of 4). No 4WD or truck tyres
  • Stoves, rangehoods, hot water systems, portable air conditioners on wheels, radios, video players, CD players and DVD players
  • Scrap metal (no longer than 1.5 meters)
  • Lawn mowers and tools
  • Electronic waste - TVs, computers, laptops, printers, monitors, keyboards and computer accessories

What can not be placed out for collection:

  • Chemicals
  • Oils
  • Paints
  • Asbestos
  • Vehicle Batteries
  • Items longer than 1.5m or too heavy for 2 people to lift
  • Car parts/bodies, 4WD or truck tyres
  • Whitegoods - fridges, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves
  • Green waste materials
  • Bean bags or bean bag filling
  • Mobile phones, cameras, household batteries, cork, DVDs, CDs, x-rays or light globes
  • Gas bottles, fuel tanks or water tanks
  • Materials accepted in your household recycling bin
  • Industrial, commercial or business waste
  • Hazardous waste, toxic chemicals, liquid waste or fertilisers
  • Large glass items e.g. windows, mirrors, shower screens, glass doors or furniture with mirror attached
  • Building or renovation materials e.g. bricks, concrete, soil, plaster, tiles, etc

Council Clean Up/Hard Rubbish Collection

Bundled Branch Collection

Frequency:

Once a Year

Houses and Units

Materials Collected

  • Up to eight bundles of branches of no more than one metre long. Branches must be tied with string and must be easily handled by one person.

Households are entitled to one free bundled branch collection per year. Contact Customer Service on to book.

Christmas Tree Collection

Materials Collected

  • One natural or real Christmas tree per household.

Residents are entitled to one natural Christmas tree collection per year (per household). Christmas tree collections begin on 29 December and end by 1 February, and bookings are required through Customer Service. You can also drop-off your Christmas tree during the same period at the Darebin Resource Recovery Centre. Real trees can be dropped off for free, but a plastic tree will cost $18 (default charge).
