You can deposit most recyclable products free of charge at Council's four waste disposal sites. Waste disposal facilities are located in Cowes (Phillip Island), Wonthaggi, Inverloch and Grantville.
Recyclables accepted free of charge include: Glass packaging - all glass bottles and jars, most other types of glass (window glass, glass table tops not accepted due to the layer of plastic laminate)
Plastic - bottles and containers with codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7
Paper and cardboard - all newspaper, milk cartons, office paper, cardboard (packaging and strapping must be removed)
Scrap metal- all whitegoods, aluminium, steel, barbed wire fencing
Light globes - Compact fluorescent light globes and light tubes
Batteries - household batteries, vehicle batteries
Used motor oil - up to 20 litres (not accepted at Inverloch)
Car bodies - must be free of tyres, oil, fuel and gas tanks (not accepted at Inverloch or Cowes)
The current waste disposal site on Phillip Island is Cowes Recycling Bank located at 105 Dunsmore Road, Cowes (off Settlement Road). The waste disposal site previously located at Rhyll closed on 30 June 2013.
