Additional Information
Need to get rid of an old mattress before your next scheduled Bulk Verge Collection? Call the City's Waste Management Department to arrange collection and recycling for only $10. Mattresses are one of the most common items put out during Council verge collections. The average mattress consumes 0.75m³ of space in landfill and contains approximately 12.5kg of steel, 2kg of wood and 1.5 kg of foam. Why bury materials that have value? Please separate all e-waste, mattresses and scrap metal during the City's annual Bulk Verge collection. e-waste (TVs, computers, monitors, etc) is produced at up to three times that of normal household waste production. It can contain toxic materials such as lead, mercury and cadmium that are hazardous and potentially damaging to the environment. Be sure to separate your old tv’s and computers at your next scheduled Bulk Verge Collection to ensure it's recycled. The City' s Bulk Verge Collection is held annually in February/March. Please separate e-Waste, mattresses and scrap metal (eg: whitegoods) - so these can be easily accessed and picked up by our crew for recycling - it's a different truck from the rest of the junk. The less that goes to landfill the better! Please also note that putting bulk waste out early is a littering offence.
