Recycling tyres from vehicles in the Berri and Barmera District Council area

Over 20 million waste tyres are generated in Australia each year, with an estimated 64% of waste tyres going to landfill and 16% disposed of inappropriately through illegal dumping. (D.E.H).

It's important to ensure that the mechanic or garage you use recycles your tyres. Tyre service centres such as Bob Jane T-Mart, Goodyear, Bridgestone and Beaurepaires will deal with tyres at the end of their life. You could ask them whether your tyres will be recycled and if not, encourage them to do so.

Waste Tyre Recycling

  • Tyres are shredded and crumbed, to then be used as soft fall surfaces, brake pads, insulation and in road repairs.

Importance of Tyre Recycling and Correct Disposal

  • Stockpiles of tyres present a fire danger, and if set alight can release toxic gases.
  • These stockpiles are a further health risk, providing ideal breeding habitats for mosquitoes.
