Rechargeable Batteryback was a free trial program that ran in Toowoomba, designed to collect and recycle unwanted rechargeable batteries. It ended on 5 September 2016.

Trial Program Arrangements

The Rechargeable Batteryback trial program was an initiative of the Queensland Department of the Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP) and the Battery Industry Working Group (BIWG), who were also funding partners.

The Australian Battery Recycling Initiative (ABRI) is made up of industry, government and environment groups, and was established in 2008 to promote environmentally responsible management of batteries at end of life.

ABRI, EcoActiv, MRI and Planet Ark worked together to deliver the program on behalf of DEHP and BIWG.
