Recycle Your Mobiles and Help The Salvos
Author: Ryan Collins
Throughout December and January if you recycle your old mobiles and accessories at any of MobileMuster's collection points across Australia, MobileMuster will give $2 to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal for every kilo they collect.
The Federal Minister for the Environment, the Hon Greg Hunt MP was at the launch of the Old Phones For Good appeal, stating, "Many people will receive a new phone for Christmas, so now is the perfect time to do some good with those old mobiles and accessories filling up your drawers at home or work by recycling them with MobileMuster, and in doing so you will be helping fellow Aussies in need."
Rose Read, Recycling Manager for not-for-profit recycling program, MobileMuster said, "Christmas is a time for giving and by recycling your old mobiles with MobileMuster you will be giving a gift that gives three times. One, helping those in need through the great work of the Salvos Stores."
"Two, a gift to our precious natural environment, by keeping old mobiles out of landfill where they can potentially harm the local environment and waterways."
"And three, a gift to yourself by decluttering your home or office of unused electronics."
Since MobileMuster started 15 years ago, it has recycled and diverted over 1,010 tonnes of old mobiles and accessories from landfill, replacing the need to mine over 25,270 tonnes of precious metal ore.
